Thomaston — The Thomaston Planning Board gave unanimous approval Jan. 15 to a proposed tasting room and restaurant.

The conditional use request was granted to Ethan Evangelos for Threshers Brewing Co LLC of Searsmont to locate a restaurant and tasting room in the vacant building at 1 Starr St.

According to Planning Board Chairman Joanne Richards, Evangelos plans to serve beer and wine, but no hard liquor, and will offer light lunch fare to start and then build on that.

The opening is planned for April.

According to a company spokesperson, Threshers' Searsmont brewery and tasting room will remain operating in the retrofitted lumberyard and the Thomaston branch will be its second location.

The business is co-owned by Evangelos and Scott Bendtson.

The new location housed Water Dog Tavern from March 2014 to January 2015, and before that, Billy's Tavern, which occupied the space for nearly eight years.
