The Keen House, located in the village of Freedom on Route 137, is undergoing restoration. It was purchased by the Freedom Community Historical Society and declared a historical building. Work has begun and the first step is to raise the building and put a basement with a foundation beneath it. Money was raised through donations and grants to begin this project.

The Freedom Community Historical Society will meet at the Town Office on Wednesday, Oct. 9, starting at 6:30 p.m.


Selectmen will meet on Monday, Oct. 7, starting at 6 p.m. at the Town Office. All meetings are open to the public.

Dirigo Grange 98 will meet on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Grange Hall starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Rec. Committee will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Town Office starting at 4 p.m.

The Planning Board will meet at the Town Office starting at 7 p.m.

Help wanted

The Town of Freedom is seeking a part-time laborer for its solid waste, recycling and public works department. Competitive wage. To apply please contact the Town Office for an application (383-6177).

Free rabies shots

The Waldo County Humane Society will hold its first fall rabies clinic Saturday Oct. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Brooks Fire Station on Route 139. Dr. Chris Tomalty of Little River Veterinary Hospital in Belfast will administer the shots free to animal owners residing in Waldo County, $7 for pets from other counties.

Donations will be gratefully accepted. Please bring dogs on leashes, cats in carriers. Bring proof of a previous rabies shot for a three-year rabies certificate.

Discount coupons will be available for spaying or neutering. FMI, call 852-5033 or 323-6308. The Waldo County Humane Society is also on Facebook.

Voice of Freedom

Save the date: Halloween Party, the big community free event given by the Freedom Rec. Committee Oct. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Freedom Election Hall. Trunk or Treat and refreshments will be served.

Get well wishes to Viola Greeley who has been in and out of the hospital quite often. Our thoughts and prayers are for you, Viola, that you feel better soon.

The leaves are changing their colors. Fall is here! Now all we need is cooler temperatures! And so the holiday rush begins. A cold and snowy winter is predicted; therefore enjoy the great weather while we have it.
