Veterans Day, Nov. 11

Now we are in the process of planning our Veterans Day event. It will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Freedom Congregational Church.

The bells will toll at 11 a.m. sharp, there will be the laying of a wreath and then the program will follow. Tyler C. Hadyniak will once again be the master of ceremonies, Myrick Cross will say a prayer, and there will be music and speakers. Following the program, refreshments will be served downstairs in the church hall.

In addition to the program, we will be celebrating the 100th birthday of Roy Ward. Roy was born on Nov. 11, 1919, and served six years in the U. S. Navy. He is a veteran of World War II and we are thrilled that he will be with us on his special day. We have celebrated his birthday in the past, but this year it is truly a special year.

The selectmen’s meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 4, starting at 6 p.m. at the Town Office,. All meetings are open to the public.

The Dirigo Grange 98 will meet at the Grange Hall on Thursday, Nov. 7, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Planning Board will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Town Office starting at 7 p.m.

The Historical Committee will meet at the Town Office on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m.

As you pass by the Keen House, you will notice that the foundation has been completed and looks great!

Hunters' Breakfast

Freedom Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual “Hunters’ Breakfast” on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. The menu will consist of lots of coffee, juice, eggs to order, sausage, bacon, toast, pancakes, beans and hash browns.

The suggested donation is $7. The event will be held at the Freedom Fire Station located at 75 Pleasant St.

The breakfast will fuel you up for a long day in the woods. One does not have to be a hunter to attend. Bring the family out, meet your friends and neighbors by attending a meal that is affordable and delicious!

Halloween

I am happy to report that despite the weather, which consisted of wind and rain, the Freedom Rec.’s Halloween Party was a success. Thank you to all that attended and to those that did the decorating, donated and provided the refreshments, cleaning up the next day, and to the winners of the raffles. Thank you, everyone!

Happy birthday

Sending birthday wishes to Matt Bennett, who celebrated his special day on this past Monday. Wishing you many more birthdays, Matt, and may they bring you lots of happiness and good health.

Until next week, stay safe, keep warm, be kind to your neighbor and God bless!
