Greetings from the edge of Freedom.

We completed our expanded goat pen for our four goats. They will be very happy to have a bigger space during the day, as will Peach and her nine ducklings. One of the ducklings had an accident in the fence and is very hurt, but we have isolated it and hope to nurse it back to health. The prospects don't seem very hopeful in my opinion, but we will try.

The Freedom selectmen discussed the possibility of resuming in-person meetings that are open to the public in person. All three selectmen seem to be on board with doing so, but each has various reservations that were discussed at length. Selectmen's meetings are open to the public via Zoom for the time being. For information regarding joining in, contact the Town Office at 382-6177.

Dirigo Grange, pictured, will be hosting a takeout barbecue Aug. 2 beginning at noon at Ingraham Equiptment in Knox. The price per meal is $10. For more information, contact the Grange at 382-3315.

I was able to participate in an in-person committee meeting of a group of Freedom citizens who are hoping to bring high-speed broadband to town. Notable members of the group are town Treasurer Alyssa Brugger, and Selectman Elaine Higgins. There will be further meetings. The more people who are involved, the better. For the time being, meetings are being held in person with the option to join by Zoom. For information, or to get involved, contact Elaine, Alyssa or me. There are a few other members, but I will spare them the endless barrage of contacts that will almost certainly be brought on by putting their information here.

Finally, in town happenings that I am aware of, there will be a public hearing Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. to consider the application by The Lost Kitchen to build several structures on the property of the Freedom Mill. The meeting will be held via Zoom. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Town Office at 382-6177.

Peace.
