The Freedom Rec. Committee purchased an airplane teeter-totter for the children’s playground in the park. It is all together and waiting for the children to try it out and enjoy it. So take your children down to the park where there are other recreational climbing/riding objects that they can enjoy!

Community event

Disneyland in Freedom is the theme of the parade and community event Freedom Rec. Committee is planning for Saturday, Aug. 17. There will be a parade, a chicken barbecue, events in the park, games, and a whole lot more.

We are looking for people who would like to participate in the parade, set up in the park, maybe do pictures with the kids, and meet the Disney characters. Wear a costume, help with pictures, build a float and be part of this special day for the children.

All are welcome to participate — bands, antique cars, fire trucks, floats, Disney-themed or whatever you decide to make, plus different town activities such as Boy Scout troops, Little League, marchers, political figures, veterans, farmers, farm equipment, farm animals, any and all kinds of organizations, horses, race cars, all those who participate in sports, and the list goes on.

The lineup will start at 9 a.m. on Bryant Road and the parade will start at 10 a.m. It will go down Bryant Road, cross over Route 137 onto Pleasant Street and end in the park.

The chicken barbecue will be held in the park and will start when the parade is over. Boat parade at Freedom Pond at 11 a.m.

If you are interested, please call Cindy Abbott at 382-6177 or Sallyann Hadyniak at 382-6024.

NOTE: All types of antique/muscle/hot rod/motorcycles and beyond cars will gather after the parade across from the Town Office in Myrick Cross’ field. If there's enough interest, ribbons may be given for best of category, etc.

Pie contest

The Dirigo Grange 98 is having a a pie judging contest on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Grange Hall, followed by an afternoon Pie Party from noon until 2 p.m.  (your choice of a piece of pie and beverage for $4).

Farm-fresh veggies

They welcome you to stop in during those hours and pick up your fresh, in-season vegetables for the week. They are only fresher if you grow them yourself! Polly and Prentice would be happy to see you there and appreciate the support of their farm.
