Full turns empty as Searsport's postseason run stops in Greenville

Greenville — The No. 5 Searsport softball team knew it would have its hands full with top-ranked Greenville on Saturday, June 8, as a berth in the regional championship game hung in the balance.

But, the Vikings had no idea how full as Laker pitcher Halle Pelletier twirled a no-hitter and elevated the home team to a 7-0 Class D South semifinal high school playoff win.

With the victory, Greenville (15-2) advances to the Class D South final, where it will face No. 3 Richmond (13-4) for the regional title on Tuesday, June 11 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.

Richmond beat No. 2 Buckfield (13-3) 11-8 in 10 innings in the semifinals and No. 6 Temple Academy of Waterville (6-8) 12-0 in the quarterfinals.

Searsport, which beat No. 4 Valley of Bingham (8-5) 14-4 in the quarterfinals, saw its season conclude at 9-9.

Viking coach Christin Chase said her ballplayers “just didn’t have it today” against the highly-touted Lakers and could not muster a hit throughout the seven-inning affair.

Greenville scored three runs in the first inning, two in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Leading the Lakers at the plate were Bianca Brenton (run), Jessica Pomerleau (double, 2 runs), Morgan Noyes (single, run), Halle Pelletier (single), Jordan Mann (double, single, run), Tiegan Murray (run), Katherine Worster (run) and Aleya Pelletier (single).

Jenna Keach pitched for Searsport, as she allowed six hits and eight walks, with five strikeouts. Halle Pelletier pitched for Greenville, as she allowed no hits and three walks, with 10 strikeouts.

During the regular season, Greenville beat Searsport twice — 3-0 and 13-2.
