Montville — The community is rallying around a Montville woman who lost all of her belongings and a litter of puppies to fire with a fundraiser planned later this month.

Rebecca Bryant, who was not at her Halldale Road home when the fire started Dec. 26, expressed her appreciation on Facebook for the support she and her five surviving dogs received following the blaze.

Fire officials were unable to determine what started the fire because of extensive damage — the structure had to be torn down with an excavator so firefighters could completely douse the flames. Bryant was the only resident of the house and is currently staying with a neighbor.

Montville Fire Department Public Information Officer Karen York, also a neighbor and fundraiser organizer, said the event to benefit Bryant will take place Saturday, Jan. 20, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Mount View High School.

The fundraiser will be a potluck supper by donation, Chinese auction and 50-50 raffle. Many people from the community have offered gifts to auction, York said, including homemade blankets, a weekend stay at a guest cottage on Lake St. George and maple syrup, among other items.
