Husband and wife filmmakers Terry Sterrenberg and Laurie Simons also made the self-funded “The Healthcare Movie,” which pre-dated the ACA.

Belfast — The Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County and Maine ALLCARE will screen the timely and powerful documentary "Now is the Time: Healthcare for Everybody" (2017, USA) Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.

The film will be followed by a discussion of the current struggle around healthcare in our country, led by Abbie Ryder, statewide field organizer for Maine ALLCARE.

This movie examines core problems with the United States healthcare "system" and the obstacles to change. Included are interviews with key players and archival video from both Senate Affordable Care Act hearings and Vermont single-payer efforts, as well as helpful graphics and the filmmakers' first-person accounts of healthcare disaster stories.

The documentary film tells the story of the drama, struggle and success of the movement towards healthcare equity. As Congress continues to reject healthcare plans that are even more disastrous than the ACA, local and state activism is essential. Community members are invited to come share their own stories and ideas on the movement towards healthcare for all. For more information, call Meredith Bruskin at 338-5089.
