Hikers invited to tackle Main Stream Preserve

Jan 13, 2019
Hike Main Stream Preserve in Stockton Springs Saturday, Jan. 19.

Stockton Springs — Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust for its monthly Hike-the-Guide outing on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Main Stream Preserve in Stockton Springs.

Located on the Stockton/Prospect town line, the Main Stream Preserve offers trails that provide hikers, anglers and hunters access to scenic Main Stream and the surrounding woodlands.

The Preserve’s easy 1.6-mile round-trip trail meanders through riparian habitat, dense fir forests, black cherry flood plains, grassy fields and hemlock groves.

The hike is open to all ages and abilities. Email info@coastalmountains.org to register for this free event and so that you can be contacted if the hike is cancelled by inclement weather.

From Belfast, take Route 1 north 9.5 miles to Stockton Springs. At the flashing yellow light on Route 1, take a left on Harris Road. Follow Harris Road to the end and take a left on Old County Road. Take your first right onto Sherer Road and continue to the end. Park on the left side of the road, leaving enough room for vehicles to turn around.

Hike-the-Guide is a series of monthly guided outings on land trust preserves listed in its Trail Guide. Held on the third Saturday of each month, the explorations are open to all ages and abilities.

Take the Hike-the-Guide Challenge: visit 12 or more preserves. Record your visits on the checklist at the back of the Land Trust Trail Guide or download the checklist from the land trust's website.
