Hire-A-Vet Campaign exceeds goal

Feb 07, 2019

Congratulations to the Maine Department of Labor Veterans Employment Team and the 12 Maine Career Centers in Augusta, Bangor, Brunswick, Calais, Hinckley, Lewiston, Machias, Greater Portland, Presque Isle, Rockland, Springvale and Wilton for exceeding their Hire-A-Vet Campaign goal of 100 veterans hired in 100 days. During that time, 211 veterans were hired.

Services offered

Veterans are invited to visit any of those offices for assistance with:

  • Enrolling in the VA system to access health care services and VA benefits
  • Filing a claim with the VA
  • Obtaining a copy of your DD 214
  • Applying for free park passes and hunting and fishing licenses

To fulfill your request, the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services may need to contact state and federal agencies on your behalf. By contacting our office, you understand and acknowledge this possibility, and authorize the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services to work on your behalf.

If you are not currently enrolled in the VA health care system, please consider doing so. Funding and staffing levels at every VA facility are based on the number of enrollees at that location. For every veteran who enrolls and uses the VA once during a 24-month period, Togus receives additional federal funding that can help the hospital make improvements in equipment, services and staffing.

Even if you feel you don't need VA services or you didn't serve long enough to warrant the benefits, your enrollment can help improve care for other veterans, now and in the future.

Highly trained veteran service officers (VSOs) are available to help you — for free — enroll in the VA system and access your earned benefits. Each month, officers submit hundreds of claims and are successful in winning millions of dollars in awards for veterans and their families.

Looking for help paying for your kids' college? Want to review and update your disability rating? Interested in applying for an Aid and Assistance pension? Please contact one of our veteran service officers as soon as possible. Offices are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
