Historic photo: Launching of Jennie Flood Kreger

Mar 11, 2018

It was reported in February 1919 that the schooner Jennie Flood Kreger, in the Frost yard at Mathews Brothers, would be ready to launch on the noon high tide some time during the first week of March. The only question of delay would have come in the completion of the rigging and joiner work. The vessel’s name, in handsome letters, and also her hailing port, Boston, were put on her stern, the work completed by Leroy A. Coombs. The Jennie did launch, on Wednesday, March 5, with a large crowd in attendance to witness the historic event. The schooner was the only five-masted ship to have been built in Belfast.
