This winter 1968 view of Belfast Harbor, from then-new Veterans Memorial Bridge, shows the city's industrialized waterfront. In the foreground is Maplewood Poultry Co.; next are Stinson Sardine Packing, the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad and the Waldo County Memorial Bridge (now Armistice Bridge). The dilapidated wooden pier was built by Coe-Mortimer Fertilizer Co. in 1909. At the foot of Main Street is the grain storage mill built to support the poultry industry and, to its right, the Mathews Brothers Co. smokestack. Ever-present since 1911 are the hard-working tugboats.
