In 1962, the Peirce Elementary School Patrol Boys were photographed with Belfast Police Officer Richard “Jake” Lawless. Officer Lawless had a long career in Belfast law enforcement, serving as patrolman, deputy chief, and as chief from 1971 to '72. As juvenile officer in the 1970s, he visited local schools as part of the city’s ongoing child safety program.
