Built in 1850, the City Block building has been a landmark structure at the corner of Main and High streets for 171 years. It is shown in this photograph dated August 1950 and the caption reads: Sleek and modern designs — in automobiles and in drugstores — have left behind the impressive “steam-power printing” of the turn of the century in Belfast, Maine. Businesses are the Carroll Cut Rate cosmetics and remedies store, a luncheonette featuring fountain services and Coca-Cola, and the Clark Real Estate and Insurance agency.
