Bygone glorry — Colonia Villa was the fine house built in 1892 by Belfast entrepreneur Edgar F. Hanson on Northport Avenue. Built as a showplace on the city’s southern entrance, opposite City Park, Hanson spared no expense on his mansion and its turrets, gingerbread millwork, stables and formal gardens. In 1919 the house was offered for sale, price $30,000 or best offer. Unfortunately, under new ownership the house burned in 1923. The Waldo County Shrine Club now occupies the site.
