It was a memorable day for the Belfast and Mount View high school field hockey teams as the Lions and Mustangs posted late-season shutout home victories on Saturday, Oct. 7.

The Lions roared to a 14-0 win over Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston at Point Lookout in Northport, while the Mustangs galloped to a 3-0 win over Central of Corinth.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Belfast 14, Oceanside 0

At Point Lookout in Northport Oct. 7, the Lions used the fast artificial surface to their advantage en route to a lopsided victory over the Mariners. Belfast led 5-0 at halftime.

Leading the potent Belfast scoring attack were Kayci Faulkingham (goal, assist), Hannah Sanderson (3 goals, assist), Lindsay Bruns (3 goals, assist), Cassidy Clark (2 goals, 2 assists), Kelsey Mehuren (goal), Cassie Jackson (goal, assist), Hannah Banks (goal, assist), Maya Cunningham (2 goals), Lauren Blood (assist), Alia Wallace (2 assists) and Makenzie Banks (assist).

The Lions held a lopsided 55-0 advantage in shots and a 13-0 edge in penalty corners. Alexa Barstow and Mattie Hooper combined to make 36 saves in goal for the Mariners, while Brooke Richards played in the cage for the Lions.

In jayvee action, Belfast posted a 1-0 win over Oceanside.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Belfast (12-1, 118.4694 points) is second, while Winslow (12-0, 150.4592 points) is first in the 15-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Mount View 3, Central 0

At Thorndike Oct. 7, the Mustangs blanked the visiting Red Devils. Mount View led 1-0 at halftime.

Sophia King scored two goals and added an assist in the win for Mount View, while Maddy Knowlton added a score for the hosts.

Alexis Bowman and Thurston Illington were each in the cage for Mount View and the two combined to make three saves on three shots. Tori Hallett made 14 saves on 17 shots in goal for Central.

In jayvee action, Mount View also posted a 3-0 win, with King scoring two goals and Sena Hayes one goal and one assist.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Mount View (5-7, 27.6020 points) is sixth, while Winthrop (12-1-1, 130.9184 points) is first in the 10-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
