Horticulturist to speak at garden club meeting

Belfast — Selecting the right plant for a given location can be challenging; the public is invited to learn more about this process at a talk Tuesday, Feb. 19, by Matt Wallhead, ornamental horticulture specialist with University of Maine Cooperative Extension.

His 2 p.m. presentation, "Selecting Flowers and Vegetables for Different Environments," is hosted by the Belfast Garden Club at Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. Wallhead will cover sustainable garden practices, holistic gardening and how to select flowers and vegetables for a wide range of settings.

An assistant professor of horticulture, Wallhead helps educate growers in Maine’s ornamental horticulture industry. His own professional interests include cut flower production, ornamental gardens, precision horticulture and fungi.
