Info session Feb. 2 for prospective Worthington Scholarship applicants

Jan 10, 2019

Belfast — The University of Maine Hutchinson Center will host a Worthington Scholarship information session Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. for parents and students interested in applying. Refreshments will be served.

All juniors and seniors at Belfast Area High School, Searsport District High School and Mount View High School who plan to attend college following graduation are invited to attend. Worthington Scholarship Foundation members will be on hand to discuss the scholarship, including how it works and how to apply.

The Worthington Scholarship is an annual renewable college scholarship that helps students in coastal Maine afford college without incurring significant debt. Awards are up to $4,000 per year for a four-year school. Community college awards are for tuition and fees not covered by other financial aid sources.

The scholarship also has a mentoring component that provides year-round staff ready to assist with any challenges and to aid each student in establishing and identifying a career following graduation. Networking and support events, internships and career counseling are also offered.

Leadership development opportunities are afforded students who serve as peer mentors for younger Worthington Scholars and speak about their college experience at their home high schools during semester breaks.

For more information, contact Kerry Hadley, Worthington Scholarship Foundation, 596-5800, ext. 101, or kerry@worthingtonscholars.org. UMaine Hutchinson is located on Route 3 in Belfast.
