1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Sears Island, Searsport. In celebration of Belfast Bee Week, Friends of Sears Island and Dirigo Learning host an insect program and bioblitz for kids age 6 to 12, with an accompanying adult.

Entomologist Karen Coluzzi from the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; Serena Cole, a retired high school biology teacher; Robin Huntley of Dirigo Learning; and Aleta McKeage of the Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District will teach children and their families about the important role insects play in our environment, with an emphasis on pollinators.

They will also help children find insects in different habitats on Sears Island. Children will have a chance to net insects, examine them up close, and help identify them. Data collected during the bioblitz will be added to the Sears Island database of biodiversity.
