Belfast — A Jackson man will serve 18 years behind bars for raping a young girl in 2015 and 2016.

Paul Andrews, 34, was sentenced April 30 under a plea bargain on four counts of gross sexual assault of a minor under the age of 12. The charges stem from 14 incidents that occurred between February 2015 and December 2016.

He was sentenced to 18 years for each of the four counts, which will be served concurrently with no portion of the term suspended. Upon his release, he will be subject to 25 years of supervised parole with the "best electronic monitoring available" at the time.

Andrews was arrested Dec. 27, 2016 — the night of the last assault, according to court records — and charged with 13 counts of gross sexual assault and one count of aggravated assault. A Waldo County Grand Jury subsequently indicted him on the 14 counts.

He was being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

In March, Andrews made headlines when he assaulted a fellow inmate, Julio Carrillo, who is accused of murdering his stepdaughter.
