Another snowstorm last night. As always I dreaded it, in fear that the lights would go out again. After that awful windstorm that we had, it has made me really nervous whenever we are going to have bad weather.

Super Bowl

I am sure most of you watched the Super Bowl. I attempted to watch and try to understand it. Whoever you were cheering for, I hope they won. Unfortunately, for my great-granddaughter Scout, the Pats lost. She was all dressed up to cheer them on. Those of you who have Facebook probably saw her picture. She was so cute (I know I am a bit partial)!

The winter Olympics have officially begun. They started on the 9th. I especially enjoy watching the opening ceremony. The other night after watching Fox news at 10 p.m., ice skating came on at 11 p.m. I don’t believe that it had anything to do with the Olympics, but I really enjoy watching the skaters, especially the couples.

I would like to send my condolences out to Clifford Thompson (and family), for the recent death of his sister Joyce (Lavway) Mehuren. Joyce used to live here in Jackson on Route 7, where she and her first husband raised their five children. All five kids rode my late husband’s school bus. Rest in peace, Joyce.

Secondly, I would like to send condolences out to the family and friends of Shirley Bessey of Knox. Shirley was a retired college professor. She lived beside Mount View for years. If I’m not mistaken, our new school and the Knox Historical Society are built on land that she donated. Shirley used to attend many events at the high school when she was able. Rest in peace, Shirley.

Shorter days

My brother-in-law Leonard, who lives in Palmyra, was telling Shirley that the days have about one hour more of daylight since December. He really enjoys keeping track of those types of things. I hope he tells us soon that winter is about over with. I think everyone is starting to feel the same way about winter. We are ready for spring.

Feb. 10 was my beautiful granddaughter LeeAnn’s birthday. I hope she had a wonderful day. She is so good to her mom and I. Happy birthday, LeeAnn!

One of the Catholic schools in Bangor is having its students put together backpacks filled with supplies in them for foster children in the area.

Did you see the fellow on the news who collects washing machines? He has about 1500 of them. What an odd thing to collect.

I have a question for you. Do you check your salad greens before you just put them into a bowl and make a salad? If not, you had better start. On the news it showed a woman (I’m not sure where) who found a lizard in her salad. She found it as he was crawling out of the bowl. It will probably be a while before I eat a salad.

Lisa and her boyfriend Derek stopped in the other afternoon. Derek was telling me that baseball spring training will be starting in about three weeks. He also told me about a channel on satellite that is all baseball. It has different movies about baseball, and old baseball games. That will give me something to watch while waiting for spring training to begin. Thanks, Derek.

I hope you all have a nice week. Please give me a call with any news/information you would like put in the column — 722-3450.
