Etna — James Joseph Roy, 50, died unexpectedly July 5, 2019, at his residence. He was born March 13, 1969, in Rockland, a son of John Roy Sr. and Anita (Mishio) Roy. He graduated from Camden Rockport High School and served as an aircraft mechanic aboard the USS Enterprise during the Persian Gulf War. He also served as an EMT with the Brooks Ambulance Service and was a dispatcher with the Waldo County Sheriff's Department.

James was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the Brooks American Legion Post 183, and the Disabled American Veterans. Following his career in the military, he followed in his father’s footsteps as a technician for NCR.

In addition to his mother of Bangor, he is survived by his wife, Valicia (Davis) Roy, of Etna; three sons, Daniel Riley of Tennessee, Justin Roy of Massachusetts, Erving Pierce and wife Brianna of New York; two daughters, Nicole and husband Grant Fisher of Tennessee and Meradith Roy and her fiancé, Ryan Chabotte, with their daughter, Anita Joyce, all of Etna. James is a beloved sibling to sisters Janice and husband George Abendroth of Rockport, Jennifer and husband William of Bangor, and brother John and wife Theresa of Parker, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; and many young children who “adopted” him as “dad.” He was well known and loved by many.

A gathering of friends and family will be held Tuesday, July 16, at 3 p.m. at his sister Jennifer’s farm in Bangor. Memorial donations can be made to Brooks Volunteer Ambulance Service, c/o Arthur Jewell Community Health Center, 60 Reynolds Road, Brooks, ME 04915.
