Jammin’ with Jeffries at the Shores

Searsport — Searsport Shores Campground, 216 West Main St./Route 1, and the Makers Guild of Maine host an old fashioned porch picking party guided jam session Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at the campground.

The Aug. 29 jam will be led by a favorite old-time fiddler, Emily Horne Jeffries. She loves teaching fiddle and sharing her knowledge of awesome old-time music. It should be a fun evening for all who like to play or hear traditional string band tunes.

Maine Glacial Seafood offers free snacks, which often include steamed mussels, clams and oysters on the half shell. Hands-on rag weaving demonstrations are ongoing, Russell Kahn's pottery wheels are spinning and Maker's Market vending tables are available for all ages (you make it, you can sell it here).  There is no charge for vending; local businesses also are welcome to showcase their products and services.

These are fun, guided community jams, not performances, so everyone is encouraged to bring their instruments, voices and songs to share. All genres of music are played. The community jams will culminate in September during two music weekends at the Shores: Bluegrass Vacationland Jam Camp; and the Old Time Music Campout. For more information, call 548-6059.
