Journal website has new look

Feb 11, 2019

A recent update to The Republican Journal website at features larger text fonts and photos as well as a streamlined homepage.

Readers will notice a significant change in the layout of the homepage, which now offers a random selection of stories at the top of the page rather than the outdated slideshow. In addition, the pages adjust for screen size, which means reading on your cellphone or tablet just got a whole lot easier.

Content produced by reporters, as well as obituaries, calendar listings, sports, arts, town news, press releases, real estate listings and business briefs all are better organized on the more compact front page. Tabs connecting readers to in-house video, local radio station WERU, e-editions, real estate and our usual story coverage appear at the top of the page, with drop-down menus featuring additional categories.

Also making a return to the homepage are story comments, allowing readers to see which stories people are talking about in their communities.

I recommend a re-think of this new look.  Having to scroll down through way-too-large photos and "Dining Deals" to find any semblance of organized headline ("What's New") doesn't work very well for me.
