Kenneth Tabbutt

Kenneth A. Tabbutt Sr. passed peacefully on Dec. 13, 2018, surrounded by family at the Idaho Veterans Home. He was born in Bar Harbor on March 3, 1934, to Flora May Sealey and Zenas Wilder Tabbutt. He had four sisters, Beatrice Ellis of Swanville, Florence, Faye Plowman and Madelaine Sanborn.

Ken joined the Air Force in 1952 and retired in 1973, earning the Bronze Star while serving in Cam Ranh Bay Vietnam 1967-1968. Those that served with Ken knew him as "Terrible T". He taught pride and honor and as well as serving others. Ken ran the crash crew in Cam Ranh Bay, first responders saving lives and safely clearing critical runways of damaged aircraft often loaded with live ordinance. It was serving in Vietnam where he was exposed to Agent Orange as were many fellow veterans. His career took him to England, Greenland, Vietnam as well as stateside to Maine, Texas, Ohio, New York, Nevada and finally to Idaho Mountain Home Air Force Base.

After serving in the Air Force for 21 years Ken joined the Boise Interagency Fire Center and Worked until retirement in 1995.

He married the love of his life, Barbara MacKenzie and raised three sons, Ken Jr., Scott (Melanie ) and Randy. They were blessed with 64 years together and created many wonderful memories. After retiring in 1995, Ken and Barbara traveled the country often going back to Maine for the summers and visiting family. When not travelling Ken would spend time in his woodworking shop or having the grandkids for sleepovers and his favorite ice cream.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, sons Ken, Scott and Randy, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and granddaughter Delaney. Our family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at the Idaho Veterans Home. They were all so loving and caring.

Services were held at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery on Jan. 4.
