Knox Scholarships awarded to two Waldo County students
Two Waldo County students have won $1,300 Stanley E. Knox Scholarships for their continuing education in technical trades.
The winners are Hannah Paige of Searsport, who is pursuing culinary arts at Eastern Maine Community College, and Logan Pooler from Mount View High School, who will study refrigeration/air conditioning and heating, also at EMCC.
Stanley E. Knox enjoyed working with and for the people whom he served. He was in the Military Police Battalion in the U.S. Army in World War II, and later became the youngest chief of police in the United States in his hometown of Saco.
Knox served 20 years in the Maine State Police and, after retiring, served 20 years as Waldo County sheriff. He always believed in the power of education. This scholarship remembers his dedication as a public servant and passes on the gift of education.
The scholarship is open to any graduating high school student in Waldo County who is pursuing a college degree in law enforcement or education or a technical trade. Two $1,300.00 scholarships are awarded upon successful completion of the first semester of college.
