KNOX TOWN NEWS

By Rita Doughty | Apr 13, 2018

Hello Folks: Another week...the sun is shining, and it has warmed up. The snow is melting fast out there. Seems good to hear some of the birds singing. We are supposed to get some more cold weather coming in.

Sympathy

It is with a sad heart that I announce my special Lady Veteran friend Gloria Pacheco, of Freedom, ( for many years ) Unity, and then Maine Veterans Home in Augusta passed on April 9th at 83 years young. She was there for three months before she passed from her COPD she lived with. One thing I was thankful for, was her moving to Unity which made it so much better for her. You will be missed by me. RIP. A Korean Vet. I have posted on mine and her facebook, that they are looking for donations to get another tandem bicycle for the Veterans home there, and through our Dept. of Maine ALA, donations may be sent for this in Memory of Gloria. Info email me, knoxtownnews@yahoo.com or call me.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association

The board, and officers met on April 10th at Freedom. It was noted that the late Mark Talty had restored the two avenue roads last fall with grading and gravel, making it better for getting in and out of the Cemetery.  Please do not try to drive in yet, as it is not passable. Someone got stuck in there. Please note :  I guess it is time we install the chains and posts we voted to buy to close it off when necessary. The Ranlet stone was fixed on it's base as well. In May the 19th we plan to have the Chicken BBQ, with our Quilt Raffle, this helps to continue with upkeep, and maintenance. A newsletter will be sent out. If you do not receive one, please let us know.

Pharmacy Robbery

The Unity Pharmacy was robbed, and so far I have heard no one has been caught for this on April 9th. It is scary to know this happens in a place that is very busy, and full of people at the Store there as well. All we know is he was tall, and blue-eyed, and drove a red car. Steve Cole met a car on the Mile road that day traveling very fast, and who know's may have been the robber. Regardless, it is scary. Keep the door's locked.

Scam Calls

Yes, it is awful. I get so many a day, thank goodness for the answering machine. Spread the word for our elderly do not fall for these calls wanting to get your money. If you did not call anyplace to order something, or deal with the IRS, and have a relative they say something has happened to, call someone to help you. Do NOT send any kind of a gift card,  ( $1000. ) that you are told to keep a secret. Never !! Do not fall for this. It is so maddening we cannot block these calls.
