Hello All,

I am late with this news column, and have been trying to get it done for you. It had not worked out well, but here I am, another week with warmer weather. Seems good to see the sunshine. Thankful for another day.

Meeting at Town Office

A reminder that on Wednesday, May 8, the Knox Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. to elect officers and decide what we need to do next to get the old East Knox School ready for use and continue the work that has been started.

We need volunteers for the Bicentennial Day coming up in July. Please come and help us out. Please contact a member of the committee if you can help. I noticed that Vicki Kupferman posted that the T-shirts for that day are ready, green with white. Shows a house, barn, horse and a logo, etc., on them.

The Bicentennial Committee is planning on having a craft fair at our field day. Anyone interested in renting a space should contact Judy Gallant at jag@uninets.net. Also we need groups to be in the parade. Any coaches who would like to have their teams participate should contact Vicki at kineo@uninets.net or Myrna at raven@uninets.net.

We would like to have veterans, the Grange, 4-H clubs, Little League and farm teams, musical groups and anyone else who would like to have a float to promote their business. Everyone will be on trucks or trailers. We also plan to have farm equipment in the parade.

Congratulations

Our best wishes to Scott and Megan Vaillancourt on their recent marriage on May 4.

Mount View

Ron Stevenson and niece Kelsey were among those at Mount View for the Mustang Stampede 5K Color Run Saturday. MVMS eighth grade had a live auction Saturday, but I didn't know or I would have posted it here.

Get well

We wish a get well to young Stephen Larrabee as he recovers from his accident. Get better soon.

Back in Alaska

Steve Littlefield is back in Alaska with the Kenai Fjords National Park Tours of the season. He is a captain on one of the boats there. The tours started on Saturday. Enjoy, Steve, that area is beautiful scenery.

Auxiliary Comcast Care Day

On Saturday, May 4, several volunteers met at Bath Legion Post No. 20 and packed close to 70 boxes of goodies for our troops, deployed military. Michelle Colby, our department district vice president, American Legion Auxiliary, works for Comcast and this is their Giving Day.

The Department of Maine partnered with Comcast and our Auxiliary members worked together to prepare the boxes to be sent. Generous donations of snacks, toiletries, small games, and special donated Beanie Babies were packed to prepare for shipping.

The troops love getting these boxes to have a little bit of home seem good, when you are deployed away from home, and your family. Job well done, and kudos to Dave for helping the ladies. Pam and Linda were present from Auxiliary No. 43 in Belfast; thanks to Veronica, as well.

On another note, I believe I have someone donating a quilt for our Auxiliary raffle at Convention. I wish I sewed, as we always need a quilt. Stay tuned. The raffle tickets have all been sent to the units statewide, for our 50/50 and basket raffle. As state fundraising chairman for this, I ask that you please bring me some goodies that you made, jams, jellies, pickles, and salsa, etc. I will even take some fudge.

If you knit, crochet, or sew, I want some goodies, too. Handcrafts of any kind, jewelry, soaps, lotions, candles, anything you would like to receive as a gift. I'll be waiting. Thanks!

Recall again

Now Tyson has recalled 12 million pounds of frozen chicken strips. Check with your grocery store if you purchase this, for the dates, lot numbers on the packages. Due to possible metal contamination.

Sympathy

Sadly, I report the passing of Jerry Parker of Troy on Friday morning. Thinking of his wife Linda, and her family. I shall miss him, as he was always keeping me informed of Legion things going on, and me helping him with the Legion November raffle each year. Rest in peace, Jerry. Our post will never be the same without you there.

Birthdays

Wishing a happy 90th birthday on May 5 to Mandy Sweet, PDP in Bucksport. A very happy 80th birthday on May 18 to Elizabeth "Betty" Seeley in Belfast. You can find Betty at the Belfast Legion Post bartending. May they both have many more.

And to my granddaughter Katie Doughty, a happy 17th birthday on May 14. Last year I ended up in the hospital on her birthday so her mom spent a long day with me, and this year I hope all is good. Happy happy!

Turkey hunting

I have not seen any turkeys, but one. A tom visited me often, all alone, but have not even seen him lately. A porcupine I saw on the mountain, but he is gone now.

Until next time, be safe, stay warm, it is getting better now. Hope you all are well. Take care.
