Lincolnville man apprehended after night-long standoff

By Stephen Betts | Aug 20, 2020

Lincolnville — A Lincolnville man was apprehended Thursday morning after a night-long standoff at a residence on Route 52.

A State Police tactical team went into the home early Aug. 20 and found that William Deane, 44, of Lincolnville either fell asleep or passed out, Waldo County Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton said.

Deane was given a dose of Narcan to revive him and was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. The sheriff said the charges to be filed against him are still being compiled.

The incident began Wednesday night when a domestic violence incident occurred. A firearm was involved in the incident. The female victim was able to get away from Deane when they stopped at Belfast Variety. A clerk called Waldo County Communications shortly after 9 p.m. and sheriff's deputies responded.

Deane then drove away and returned to his residence.

Police went to the residence, but Deane refused to leave the house. The tactical team was called and initially they had contact with Deane, but then he did not respond to their calls.

The woman suffered bruises, but did not immediately require hospital treatment. The firearm and other evidence were recovered at the residence. A sheriff's deputy is watching Deane at the hospital.
