Lions ring in new year with split of home tri-meet

Belfast — While the end of 2017 saw Belfast wrestlers drop three straight matches, the Lions looked to turn their fortunes at the start of the new year in their home tri-meet on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

Belfast came within five points of finishing the high school mat meet undefeated, but, alas, it was not to be as the Lions fell to Mount Ararat/Brunswick 39-34 and beat Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 54-28, to finish 1-1 in the tri-meet.

The individual Belfast results, with Lions listed first, were:

113 pounds — Timothy Smith won by forfeit over Mount Ararat/Brunswick; and was pinned by Tyler Baker, MCI.

120 pounds — Patrick Hanley pinned Sam Foye, MtA/B; and won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute.

132 pounds — Wyatt Staples was pinned by Ben Lawrence, MtA/B; and won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute.

138 pounds — Chase Curry beat Caden Kowalsky, MtA/B; and pinned Cole Steeves, MCI.

145 pounds — Patrick Curtis lost to Brett Raio, MtA/B; and won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute.

152 pounds — Jacob Racioppi pinned Conner Foye, MtA/B; and won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute.

160 pounds — Nathaniel Porter was pinned by Isaac Ducatt, MtA/B; and lost to Jeremy Raymond, MCI.

170 pounds — David Warren was pinned by Mason Hultman, MtA/B; and won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute.

182 pounds — Jason Norwood was pinned by Brady Mitchell-Damms, MtA/B; and won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute.

220 pounds — Brian White pinned Jedediah Rice, MtA/B; and won by forfeit over MCI.

285 pounds — Cameron Watts pinned Andy Murray, MtA/B; and pinned Kahlden Briggs, MCI.
