Local Color showcases Cirillo

Nov 02, 2018
“Autumn Tree” is a felted painting by Sandi Cirillo.

Belfast — Local Color Gallery, 135 High St., is featuring the work of Sandi Cirillo, who has been a fiber/mixed media artist for more than 25 years.

Cirillo specializes in creating artwork focused on the textural qualities of manmade and natural fibers that she incorporates. Her work reflects a love of traveling throughout Maine and an appreciation of the natural environment around her.

Another of Cirillo’s artistic approaches that can be seen this month at Local Color Gallery is solar plate etchings. This process starts with an original photo, which is put into a copier to reproduce the image onto a transparency film. The transparency is placed on top of a copper plate and, using ultraviolet light, the imagery from the transparency is “etched” onto the copper plate. The plate is inked and run through an etching press to complete the process.

Local Color Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. For more information, visit localcolorgallerymaine.com.
