Belfast — Kelli and Allen Bucklin of Belfast have organized a walk Saturday afternoon, Aug. 12, to promote awareness and raise funds to combat Nephrotic Syndrome, a rare kidney disorder that afflicts 16 of 100,000 people. One of them is the Bucklins' son Nathan, 15, who has been living with the disease since age 4.

Held in conjunction with NephCure Kidney International, the two-hour walk begins and ends at Steamboat Landing. Onsite registration will begin at 1 p.m. and the walk starts at 2 p.m.

Music will follow, initially with DJ Jason Moody, and then live music by Sam Ladd from 6 to 8 p.m. Kids Unplugged will provide a bounce house and face painting for children. Searsport Lions Club will sell hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages. A lap quilt, donated by Crystal Creations, will be raffled.

Participants can preregister at https://give.nephcure.org/Maine. Sponsors and donations are appreciated. For questions or further information, contact Kelli Bucklin at findacure4ns@gmail.com or 207-930-5041.
