Luena graduated from Winterport High School in 1941. She went to Portland for nursing school and graduated as an LPN. She went back to school in her 50s and received her RN from Eastern Maine General Hospital.

She enjoyed her life as a nurse working many night shifts and weekends and holidays. She made many wonderful friends at Bangor State Hospital in her 35 years there, as well as at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Bangor City Nursing and Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, Fla.

Mom spend the last 40 years of her life as a snowbird in Zephyrhills at Florida Estates. She loved her many friends at Florida Estates, including groups for sewing, bingo, bowling, quilting and golf. The last few years she became "the poker queen," cleaning up on Thursday nights.

Luena’s first real passion besides her family was golfing. She took this up in her later years in both Maine and Florida; she was on lots of teams and clubs. She got a hole-in-one at the age of 83. She shared many special times golfing with her daughter-in-law Donna Nason.

Quilting over the last few years was another great pastime of Mom's. She made quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grand and great-great-grands that are treasured memories for all. Mom won many blue ribbons over the years at Bluehill Fair.

A graveside memorial will be held at noon on Friday, Aug. 23, at Maine Veterans Cemetery. A time of remembrance will be held at Frank and Sally’s after the service. Bring a dish to share. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bucksport, online at
