Main Street Bucksport awarded grant to create downtown murals

Nov 24, 2019

Bucksport — The Maine Community Foundation has awarded Main Street Bucksport a Maine Expansion Arts Fund grant to create several large-scale murals downtown.

Main Street Bucksport first commissioned a mural that was unveiled at the 2018 Bucksport Arts Festival near Camden National Bank. In 2020, local artists will be asked to submit applications to a jury consisting of Bucksport-based arts educators and downtown business owners to create four murals during the summer of 2020. Preference will be given to Bucksport-based artists and all grant funds will be used to pay artists for their work. Locations are still being determined.

Anyone who owns downtown property and is interested in having a building mural created should contact Main Street Bucksport. The creation of downtown public art was a goal identified in several community planning efforts, including Bucksport Heart and Soul and the ADAPT plan.
