Ellsworth — Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that strengthen communities are encouraged to apply to the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

A volunteer committee of Waldo County residents and community leaders reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding. The deadline for applying is Feb. 15. Application, guidelines and a list of 2019 grants are available at mainecf.org.

In 2019, the Waldo County Committee awarded $40,492 in grants to eight nonprofits, including:

• Aging Well in Waldo County, to mobilize county libraries, municipal government, and local organizations to complete campaign to make municipalities age-friendly places to live

• Waterfall Arts, to expand accessible community arts programs to include film, documentary, and storytelling offerings for Waldo County residents by deepening and resourcing partnership with Camden International Film Festival

• Waldo County Woodshed, to build a countywide system to reliably provide emergency supplemental firewood to households unable to keep adequately warm by their own means.

Launched in 1990, the Waldo County Fund is marking 25 years of grantmaking in 2020. The fund provides permanent support to nonprofits in the region. If you would like more information about the fund, contact Senior Program Officer Leslie Goode at 412-2002 or lgoode@mainecf.org.
