Stuart Kestenbaum

Belfast — Left Bank Books, 109 Church St., is honored to welcome Maine’s Poet Laureate Stuart Kestenbaum on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. for a talk and reading. Kestenbaum will be reading from his newest collection of poems, "How to Start Over." The public is invited to this free event, which is the official opening to the Belfast Poetry Festival. The festival continues on Saturday, Oct. 19, at various venues in Belfast.

Poet Richard Blanco says this about "How to Start Over": "Keen and full of wisdom, these utterly graceful poems speak to us like aphorisms or proverbs, making us pause, pay attention to the world again, and reconsider our lives -- past, present, and future. These poems make me feel fully present and aware: every word a deep breath; every line a moment of deep meditation."

Kestenbaum is the host of the Maine Public Radio program "Poems from Here" and the host/curator of the podcast "Make/Time." He served as the director of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts from 1988 to 2015 and has written and spoken widely on craft making and creativity. His work has appeared in numerous publications and he is the artistic director of Monson Arts, an artists' residency program.

Reservations are strongly encouraged for this event; call 338-9009 or email leftbank@myfairpoint.net.
