MaineCF’s Waldo County Committee awards $40,000+ in grants

Ellsworth — The Waldo County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded $40, 492 in grants to eight local nonprofits.

Grant recipients include:

- Aging Well in Waldo County, to mobilize county libraries, municipal government, and local organizations to complete the campaign to make municipalities more age-friendly places to live.

- ReTreeUS, to cultivate thriving orchards in five Waldo County schools and deliver orchard-based learning opportunities to educate the next generation of healthy food system contributors.

- Waldo County Woodshed, to build a countywide system to provide emergency supplemental firewood to households that are unable to keep warm adequately by their own means.

The Waldo County Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects and nonprofits that strengthen communities in the county. Applications go through the foundation’s Community Building Grant Program and are reviewed by a committee of local leaders.
