Belmont — A Lewiston man was arrested Dec. 28 following a fight on the side of a Belmont road.

Just before 7 p.m., Allen Sanborn, 59, was spotted in an altercation with another person on the side of Route 3 by Maine State Police Trooper Don Webber. Waldo County Sheriff Deputy Ryan Jackson responded as well.

Jackson determined that Sanborn and his 17-year-old son were arguing inside a vehicle that also was carrying his son's 16-year-old girlfriend, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. Sanborn stopped the vehicle and his son got out. Police said the verbal argument continued on the side of the road, until Sanborn stabbed the teen once in the torso with a knife, escalating to a physical confrontation.

Both were taken to Waldo County General Hospital for injuries.

Sanborn has been charged with aggravated assault, class B; domestic violence assault, class D; and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, class C. No bail was set.
