“On Golden Pond” cast members rehearse for the Belfast Maskers' October show.

Belfast — The Belfast Maskers have announced the cast of “On Golden Pond,” which will be presented next month at the First Church. This very funny play deals with one family’s struggle with age, rage, regret, love withheld, love unspoken, disappointment and, ultimately, forgiveness, acceptance and renewal.

“On Golden Pond” tells love story of Norman (Brian Ross) and Ethel (Sunny Kirkham) Thayer, returning to their summer home on Golden Pond in Maine for the 48th year. They are visited by their divorced middle-aged daughter, Chelsea (Beverly Smith) and her dentist fiancé Bill Ray (Jim Tatgenhorst), who then goes off to Europe — leaving his teenage son Billy (Finn Tarbox) behind for the summer. Mark Durbin rounds out the cast as their rustic, Maine’ah mailman, Charlie Martin.

“On Golden Pond” was written in 1979 by Ernest Thompson and spawned the award-winning 1981 film version starring Katherine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda. The Maskers production is directed by Meg Nickerson.

Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., Oct. 6 through 15. For more information, visit or email
