Matching donors boost Action Partners fund-raising

Belfast — Waldo Community Action Partners — provider of low-cost and free transportation and early childhood education in coastal Waldo County — raised more than $6,000 in the last month, successfully meeting the challenge from generous donors who offered to match the gifts dollar for dollar, according to Action Partners executive director Keith Small.

“With reduced federal and state support, these private gifts become even more important,” Small said. “They give us the flexibility to provide services to low-income families when and where they are most needed.”

Nearly a dozen donors provided the impetus for the winter fund raising challenge, with gifts of $100 to $1,000. Nearly three dozen local businesses and individuals contributed to meet the match.

“Everyone at Waldo Community Action Partners, Board members and staff, volunteers and clients, is very grateful to the generous contributors who made this campaign a success,” said Small. “People seem to appreciate that a matching challenge doubles the impact of their gift and helps more people in Waldo County. We may even be able to extend the challenge throughout the winter.”

Waldo Community Action Partners is a multi-service agency that has provided Waldo County’s people with Head Start early childhood education and nutrition, transportation, housing and fuel assistance, as well as other important community programs since 1965. Last year it provided services to nearly 8,000 people, more than one out of every five county residents. Tax-deductible contributions can be sent to: WCAP P.O. Box 130 Belfast, Maine, 04915.
