Garden Club Talk

McKeage to discuss eco-landscaping techniques April 16

Apr 04, 2019

Belfast — Conservation biologist Aleta McKeage will describe ways to make gardens and yards healthy and resilient at a public talk hosted by the Belfast Garden Club Tuesday, April 16.

The presentation, at 2 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library, will describe how native plants can be used to provide color, interest and form, while providing wildlife and pollinator habitat. Gardening with native plants can also help reduce lawn care, cut chemical inputs, improve soil and reduce pest problems.

McKeage will show how local gardeners can choose plants and design elements in eco-landscaping approaches that foster thriving ecosystems.

With expertise in native and invasive plants as well as ecological restoration, McKeage serves as technical director of the Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District.
