Medomak, Oceanside, Nobleboro-Jefferson, Bristol punch tickets to finals

Riverhawk softball will face Nobleboro-Jefferson, Mariner baseball to challenge Bristol

The final four teams for the Busline League middle school baseball and softball championship games have been decided and now will step to the plate to see if they can nail down titles.

After the championship games were pushed back due to days of persistent rain last week, the championship games are slated for two separate days at two separate venues.

The softball championship will be on Monday, June 11 at 3:30 p.m. at either the Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.

The game will pit top-seeded and North Division champion Medomak against third-seeded and South Division champion Nobleboro-Jefferson.

The baseball championship will be on Tuesday, June 12 at 4 p.m. at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.

The game will feature North Division champion and third-ranked Oceanside against South Division champion and second-seeded Bristol.

The games originally were scheduled to be played at Troy Howard Middle School, but were moved to Lincoln County based largely on the proximity of the four remaining teams.

The following is a breakdown of final regular season standings, along with playoff pairings — and results where applicable — for playoff games:

North softball — Medomak of Waldoboro 10-0, Camden-Rockport 4-4, Troy Howard of Belfast 4-5, St. George 4-6, Oceanside of Rockland 3-7 and Searsport 3-7. No. 1 Medomak and No. 2 Camden-Rockport receive first-round byes.

North baseball — Troy Howard 8-1, Medomak 7-3, Oceanside 6-4, Hope-Appleton-Lincolnville 5-5, Searsport 3-7 and Camden-Rockport 0-8. No. 1 Troy Howard and No. 2 Medomak receive first-round byes.

South softball — Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta 7-2, Oceanside 6-2, Nobleboro 6-3, Camden-Rockport 5-3, Bristol 4-5, Medomak 2-6 and Wiscasset 0-7. No. 1 Great Salt Bay receives a first-round bye.

South baseball — Great Salt Bay 9-0, Bristol 6-3, Medomak 4-4, Oceanside 4-4, Troy Howard 4-4, Nobleboro-Jefferson 3-6 and Wiscasset 0-7. Wiscasset will not participate in the playoffs. No. 1 Great Salt Bay and No. 2 Bristol receive first-round byes.

In North softball quarterfinal games on Tuesday, May 28, No. 6 Searsport beat No. 3 Troy Howard (score unavailable) and No. 4 St. George beat No. 5 Oceanside 15-14.

In the semifinals, No. 1 Medomak defeated No. 4 St. George 26-0 on Wednesday, May 30, while No. 2 Camden-Rockport beat No. 6 Searsport (score unavailable) on Thursday, May 31.

No. 1 Medomak bested No. 2 Camden-Rockport 10-2 on Wednesday, June 6 to win the North Division title.

In North baseball, No. 3 Oceanside beat No. 6 Camden-Rockport 14-9 on Wednesday, May 30 and No. 4 HAL beat No. 5 Searsport (score unavailable) on Tuesday, May 29.

In the semifinals, No. 1 Troy Howard defeated No. 4 HAL (score unavailable) on Tuesday, June 5, while No. 3 Oceanside beat No. 2 Medomak 8-4 on Thursday, May 31.

No. 3 Oceanside defeated No. 1 Troy Howard 6-4 to win the North Division title.

In South softball quarterfinal games on Tuesday, May 28, No. 2 Oceanside beat No. 7 Wiscasset 19-1, No. 3 Nobleboro-Jefferson beat No. 6 Medomak (score unavailable) and No. 4 Camden-Rockport beat No. 5 Bristol 9-2.

No. 3 Nobleboro-Jefferson bested No. 2 Oceanside (score unavailable) in a semifinal game on Thursday, May 31, while No. 1 Great Salt Bay defeated No. 4 Camden-Rockport (score unavailable) on Wednesday, June 6.

No. 3 Nobleboro-Jefferson defeated No. 1 Great Salt Bay 4-3 on Thursday, June 7 to win the South Division title.

In South baseball quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 29, No. 6 Nobleboro-Jefferson beat No. 3 Medomak (score unavailable) and No. 4 Oceanside beat No. 5 Troy Howard 6-4.

In the semifinals on Thursday, May 31, No. 2 Bristol beat No. 6 Nobleboro-Jefferson and No. 1 Great Salt beat No. 4 Oceanside 17-5.

No. 2 Bristol defeated No. 1 Great Salt Bay on Thursday, June 7 to win the South Division championship.

The following is a breakdown recently-reported playoff and regular-season results:

Baseball

No. 3 Oceanside 8th 6, No. 1 Troy Howard 3

At Belfast June 6, the Mariners doubled up the host Lions to clinch the North Division title. Oceanside scored two runs each in the third, fifth and seventh innings, while Troy Howard scored runs in the third, fourth and sixth frames.

The Mariners won with the benefit of just one hit by Hunter Norton. For the Lions, Jonah Lovejoy (hit), Zepherin Leppanen (hit, run), Jacoby Grotton (hit, RBI), Koal Joy (hit, run), Frankie Martin (hit, run), Elias Howard (hit, RBI) and Tanner Brewer (hit, RBI) paced the offense.

Austin Chilles went 6 2/3 innings, while Connor Calderwood went the rest of the way. The duo combined to allow seven hits and no walks, with four strikeouts for Oceanside.

Leppanen and Ronin Deschamps each toed the rubber for Trouy Howard, yielding just one hit and 12 walks, with 11 strikeouts.

No. 3 Oceanside 8th 8, No. 2 Medomak 4

On May 31 in Waldoboro, Oceanside traveled to Medomak to take on the Riverhawks in the semifinals for the second straight year and came away with the victory.

The visitors plated five runs in the top of the first inning and the hosts could never overcome that deficit.

Brady Carter ( 2 singles, walk) and Jake Bickmore (2 singles ) were the catalysts for Medomak, while Garrett Hutchins (single ) and Aiden Sawyer (single ) provided the rest of the offense for the hosts.

For Oceanside, Hunter Norton ( 2 singles, walk), Duncan Oakes-Nelsen (2 singles, walk), Max Bonzagni (2 singles), Connor Calderwood (single), Brady Marchessault (single) and Ben Witham (single) provided the punch to help the Mariners move on to the division championship.

Pitching for MMS were Bickmore (5 runs on 2 hits, 6 walks, 8 strikeouts) and Carter (3 runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts). For Oceanside, Austin Chilles and Marchessault pitched, as the duo allowed four runs on six hits, six walks and five strikeouts.

Also notable were seven fine putouts by Calderwood at shortstop to keep any comeback in check, said Riverhawk coach Shep Brown.

No. 3 Oceanside 8th 14, No. 6 Camden-Rockport 9

At Thomaston May 30, the Mariners blasted the Schooners for a six-run third inning and advanced to the next round of the playoffs. Oceanside scored one in the first, three in the fourth and four in the fifth in addition to the six-run third, while Camden-Rockport scored three in the third and fifth innings and one in the fourth, sixth and seventh.

Leading Oceanside at the plate were Austin Chilles (3 runs), Hunter Norton (2 hits, 3 runs), Connor Calderwood (hit, 2 runs, RBI), Duncan Oakes-Nelsen (hit, run, 3 RBIs), Landon Tabbutt (hit, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Brady Marchessault (2 runs), Ben Witham (2 RBIs), Josh Smalley (RBI) and Max Bonzagni (hit, run).

For Camden-Rockport, Eli Libby (hit, run, RBI), Noah Thackeray (2 hits, 2 RBIs), Sawyer Olson (hit, run), Ryan Clifford (run, RBI), Adrian Pierce (2 runs, 2 RBIs, 2 hits), Lucas Moody (hit, run) and Mason Chadwick (2 runs) paced the offense.

Calderwood and Oakes-Nelson pitched for the Mariners, as the duo allowed seven hits and six walks, with nine strikeouts. Olson, Thackeray and Pierce pitched for the Schooners, as the trio allowed six hits and 15 walks, with four strikeouts.

Medomak 8th 12, Camden-Rockport 5

At Waldoboro May 25, the Riverhawks swung past the Schooners.

Leading Medomak at the plate were Jake Bickmore (home run, double, 6 RBIs), Noah Ludwig (3 singles), Brady Carter (2 singles), Cole Wallace (2 singles), Trystan Francis (single), Aiden Sawyer (single) and Dylan Thornton (single).

For Camden-Rockport, Ryan Clifford (single, doubles) Christopher Cammelieri (single) and Luke Moody (single) paced the offense.

Ludwig, Carter and Wallace toed the rubber on the mound for the Riverhawks, as they allowed a combined three hits and five walks, with eight strikeouts. Camden-Rockport pitchers allowed 12 hits and seven walks, with six strikeouts.

Oceanside 8th 9, Hope-Appleton-Lincolnville 3

At Thomaston May 23, the Mariners benefited from a seven-run fourth inning and swung past HAL. Oceanside also added runs in the third and sixth innings, while HAL scored two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Leading the Mariners at the plate were Austin Chilles (hit, 2 runs, RBI), Hunter Norton (2 hits, 2 runs), Connor Calderwood (hit, RBI), Duncan Oakes-Nelsen (hit, RBI), Landon Tabbutt (run, RBI), Brady Marchessault (hit, run), Jacob Carroll (run), Ben Witham (hit, 2 RBIs, run), Josh Smalley (run), Max Bonzagni (RBI) and Collin Landry (hit).

For HAL, Jackson Bernier (hit), Matt Kremin (run), Emmitt Dayhoof (2 hits, run), Elijah Stone (hit, run), Joseph Coffey (RBI) and Daiken Perkins (2 hits, RBI) paced the offense.

Chilles and Calderwood pitched for Oceanside, as the twosome allowed six hits and two walks, with 12 strikeouts. Kremin, Bernier, Stone and Dayhoof pitched for HAL, allowing eight hits and seven walks, with nine strikeouts.

Medomak 7th 4, Troy Howard 2

At Waldoboro May 22, the Riverhawks doubled the Lions. Medomak scored three in the first and one in the fourth, while Troy Howard scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Leading Medomak at the plate were Isaac Simmons (2 hits, RBI), while Jeremiah Porter (hit), Liam McConnell (hit), Tommy Davey (RBI) and Will Robbins (RBI) paced Troy Howard.

Hayden Staples and Matthew Holbrook pitched for Medomak, while Liam McConnell pitched for Troy Howard.

Medomak 8th 12, Camden-Rockport 4

At Camden May 21, the Riverhawks bested the Schooners by an eight-run margin.

Leading the visitors at the dish were Garrett Hutchins (2 singles), Jake Bickmore (double), Cole Wallace (double), Brady Carter (single), Trystan Francis (single), Noah Ludwig (single) and Zim Cunningham (single).

Sawyer Olsen had the lone hit for Camden-Rockport.

Hutchins, Wallace and Colby Brown pitched for Medomak, as they allowed one hit and six walks, with five strikeouts.

Troy Howard 8th 7, Oceanside 1

At Thomaston May 22, the Lions prowled past the Mariners. Troy Howard scored two in the fourth and sixth innings and three in the seventh, while Oceanside scored one in the fifth.

Leading the Lions at the plate were Jonah Lovejoy (hit, run), Zepherin Leppanen (hit, run, RBI), Jacoby Grotton (2 hits 2 runs, RBI), Koal Joy (hit, RBI, 2 runs) and Connor Fournier (run).

For the Mariners, Austin Chilles (hit), Connor Calderwood hit), Landon Tabbutt (hit) and Brady Marchessault (run) paced the offense.

Grotton and Leppanen pitched for Troy Howard, as the duo allowed three hits and five walks, with 12 strikeouts. Marchessault, Smalley and Calderwood pitched for Oceanside, allowing five hits and four walks, with nine strikeouts.

Medomak 8th 14, Hope-Appleton-Lincolnville 2 (6 inns.)

At Waldoboro May 18, the Riverhawks triumphed over HAL by mercy rule.

Leading the hosts at the plate were Brady Carter (home run, double, single), Jake Bickmore (2 doubles, single), Colby Brown (2 doubles), Garrett Hutchins (single), Zim Cunningham (single) and Aiden Sawyer (single).

Jackson Bernier (double, single), Ben Tohanczyn (single), Emmitt Dayhoof (single), Elijah Stone (single), Joseph Coffey (single), Lucas Wyman (single) and Matt Kremin (single) paced the HAL offense.

Carter and Ludwig pitched for the Riverhawks, as the twosome allowed eight hits and five walks, with eight strikeouts.

Medomak 5, Nobleboro-Jefferson 4

At Nobleboro May 17, the Riverhawks swung past the hosts.

Hayden Staples got the win on the hill for Medomak, while Matthew Holbrook earned the save. Blake Morrison, Jaiden Starr and Tyler Metcalf rapped multiple hits for the visitors.

Softball

No. 1 Medomak 10, No. 2 Camden-Rockport 2

At Waldoboro June 5, the Riverhawks soared past the Schooners and claimed the coveted North Division title. Medomak scored two in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth, while Camden-Rockport scored one in the fifth and sixth innings.

Leading Medomak at the plate was Cameron Baines (double, run), Ruth Havener (single, run), Lucy Jameson (triple, double, single, 3 runs, stolen base), White (3 singles, 2 runs, 3 stolen bases), Alyssa Creamer (double, 3 singles, run, stolen base), Autumn Ripley (single, run, 2 stolen bases), Lizzi Swan (single) and Ellie Ashmore (run).

For Camden-Rockport, Alyssa Bland (2 singles), Olivia Ogier (single, 4 stolen bases, run), Kennedy Peterson (single, stolen base), Lillia Stone (single, stolen base), Aly Shook (run, stolen base) and Mary Christie (single, stolen base) paced the offense.

Stone pitched for the Schooners, allowing 14 hits and two walks, with six strikeouts. Creamer pitched for the Riverhawks, allowing six hits and five walks, with 11 strikeouts.

No. 1 Medomak 8th 26, No. 4 St. George 0 (4 inns.)

At Waldoboro May 30, the Riverhawks blanked the Dragons by a lopsided score and advanced to the semifinals. Medomak scored 12 runs in the first, seven in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth.

Leading the hosts at the plate were Baylee Stewart (double, 4 singles, 5 runs), Cameron Baines (3 singles, 3 runs), Lucy Jameson (2 doubles, 3 singles, 5 runs), Grace White (4 singles, 3 runs, stolen base), Alyssa Creamer (4 singles, 2 runs), Ruth Havener (2 singles, 2 runs), Brianna Feyler (double, run), Taylor Podraski (double, single), Autumn Ripley (single, run), Lizzi Swan (run, stolen base), Julia Kunesh (2 singles), Rachel Gross (2 singles, 2 runs, stolen base) and Ellie Ashmore (single, run, stolen base).

No. 3 Nobleboro-Jefferson 15, No. 6 Medomak 7th 3 (5 inns.)

At Nobleboro May 29, the host made quick work of the Riverhawks and prevailed by mercy rule. Medomak scored runs in the first, third and fifth frames, while Nobleboro/Jefferson scored three in the first, four in the second, four in the third and four in the fifth.

Leading the Riverhawks at the plate were Mandi Karl (run), Quinn Overlock (double, 2 runs) and Katelynn Berry (single).

For the hosts, Natalie Kaler (2 singles, run), Olivia Stiles (triple, 2 singles, 3 runs), Kadence Barbour (single, run), Payson Kaler (2 home runs, single, 3 runs), Paige Lafrenaye (single, run), Eliza Spear (2 singles, 2 runs), J Peterson (single), J Brown (single, run), Madison Scott (single, run), Cheyenne Wadford (2 singles, run) and Anna Feltis (single, run) paced the offense.

Madison Greenrose pitched for Medomak, as she allowed 18 hits and no walks, with three strikeouts. Kaler pitched for Nobleboro-Jefferson, as she finished with two hits and 11 walks, with seven strikeouts.

Medomak 8th 19, St. George 3

At St. George May 24, the Riverhawks invaded the Dragons’ lair and emerged with a win.

Alyssa Creamer pitched for Medomak, as she allowed two hits and five walks, with six strikeouts. Anna Kingsbury pitched for St. George, as she scattered 21 hits and two walks, with three strikeouts.

Leading the ‘Hawks at the plate were Autumn Ripley (single), Brianna Feyler (single), Grace White (single), Ellie Ashmore (single), Anna Wagner (single), Lizzi Swan (triple), Taylor Podraski (3 doubles), Lucy Jameson (3 singles), Alyssa Creamer (2 singles, double), Cameron Baines (single, 2 doubles) and Ruth Havener (single, 3 doubles).

For St. George, Anna Kingsbury singled and Victoria Balla doubled.

Medomak 8th 17, Camden-Rockport 3

At Camden May 21, the Riverhawks emerged victorious over the Schooners.

Leading Medomak at the plate were Baylee Stewart (single), Autumn Ripley (single), Lucy Jameson (double, single), Grace White (4 singles), Alyssa Creamer (single), Taylor Podraski (single), Cameron Baines (double, single), Emylee Bryant (single) and Rachel Gross (2 singles).

For Camden-Rockport, Alyssa Bland (single), Olivia Ogier (single) and Aly Shook (single) paced the offense.

Creamer pitched for the Riverhawks, as she allowed three hits and three walks, with eight strikeouts. Kennedy Peterson pitched for the Schooners, as she allowed 15 hits and 11 walks, with eight strikeouts.
