Merrifield, Buckley, May, Paling fastest in Pendleton Rail Trail event

Participants run or walk 3.1 or five miles

Belfast — The RunBelfast Series kicked off its 2019 season with the Pendleton 5-kilometer and five-mile run/walk events on Saturday, June 1 on the Rail Trail.

The event began at the Armistice Footbrige on the Rail Trail and took participants across the trail and along the Passagassawaskeag River.

Ethan Merrifield was first overall, and first male finisher for the 5K run/walk. Merrifield finished the 3.1-mile run in 19:39. Katie Buckley was the first female finisher, fifth overall, in 21:40.

For the five-mile portion of the run and walk, Caitlin May was the first finisher, and first female in 34:14. Nate Paling was the first male in 38:02.

The RunBelfast Race Series is a collaboration of six events from June through October. Hosted by Paws, the Waldo County YMCA, Belfast Rotary and Coastal Mountains Land Trust, as well as Rollie's for Shriner's Hospital for Children, the series consists of trail and road races. With the first and final events, there are options for a longer race. The Rail Trail race options a five-mile distance, and the YMCA Triple Stack offers a six-mile option.
