Midcoast Babe Ruth League in hot-and-heavy weekly action

Penobscot Bay Dentistry, Waldoboro share top spot with 3-0 records

The Midcoast Babe Ruth League regular season is underway as nine teams finished May play and now settle in for a bevy of contests in June.

The regular season began on Sunday, May 20 and will continue to play on Sundays until June 10 before the schedule opens with games on other days.

Coaches can report results to Courier Publications/VillageSoup by emailing game information or by sending photos, taken by a smartphone, of the home and away scorebooks, to sports@courierpublicationsllc.com. Results also can be reported by calling 594-4401, extension 116.

Participating squads, with home fields in parentheses, include Penobscot Bay Dentistry (Belfast Area High School), P.G. Willey (Marge Jones Recreational Facility), Granite Coast Orthodontics (Marge Jones Recreational Facility), Rockland Ford (Oceanside Middle School), TD Bank-Rockland (Oceanside Middle School), Union Farm Equipment (Medomak Valley High School), Waldoboro (Begley Field), Newcastle (Lincoln Academy) and Damariscotta Lions (Lincoln Academy).

Waldoboro 4, Rockland Ford 3

At Waldoboro June 3, Waldoboro edged out Rockland Ford. Waldoboro scored two runs in the first and sixth innings, while Rockland Ford scored one in the second and two in the third.

Leading Rockland Ford at the plate was Tim Farrelly (single, run), Nate Coombs (single), Jonah Carlson (single, run, RBI), Connor Calderwood (2 singles, RBI), Alex Bartlett (run), Nathaniel Bernard (2 singles) and Duncan Oakes-Nelsen (double).

For Waldoboro, Carter (double, run), Reed (single, 2 runs), Castner (double, single, run) and Staples (single, stolen base) paced the offense.

Reed and Belcher pitched for Waldoboro, allowing eight hits and five walks, with nine strikeouts. Bartlett pitched for Rockland Ford, allowing five hits and one walk, with six strikeouts.
