Weather Brief Feb 05, 2019

Midcoast Forecast - February 5, 2019

Tuesday has felt like spring across the Midcoast with a round of morning rain showers followed sunshine and mild temperatures for the afternoon with highs into the 50s with part of southwest Maine reaching the 60s. The rain moved in along a cold front approaching from the west that will sweep through during the overnight ushering cold winter air back into the region for Wednesday. High pressure will build in for Wednesday morning giving us a sunny start to the day but clouds will increase late in the day as our next weather maker slides in from the south and west.

An area of low pressure moving through the Ohio River Valley will push a warm front in from the south late Wednesday and into Thursday that will bring a round of snow Wednesday night then change to sleet and then pockets of winter mix and rain Thursday morning as the warm front pushes further north into southern New England. The mildest air will stay to our south keeping temperatures across the Midcoast either side of the freezing mark of 32 degrees through this period. The front will stall just to our south Thursday afternoon with precipitation tapering off but a strong area of low pressure will move along the front from the west lifting the warm front through Maine into Friday while pushing in a slug of rain. Once again, temperatures will climb well above normal into the 40s and low 50s.

A cold front will sweep through Friday night ushering in bitter cold air for the weekend along brisk west winds. A large ridge of high pressure will settle over the region through the weekend and into the early week with a stretch of sunny and cold weather.
