Weather Brief Mar 19, 2019

Midcoast Forecast - March 19, 2019

The Midcoast continues to soak up the sunshine Tuesday thanks to high pressure set up over New England. It was another chilly day however with lows in the teens and 20s and highs in the 30s. We'll see a warm up heading into the mid week with highs reaching the 40s for the first day of spring Wednesday. High pressure will slide east into the Canadian maritime setting up the Midcoast in a southwest flow. This will pump in the warmer air through the mid to late week, setting the stage for a rainstorm.

A cold front sweeping in from the west will push clouds into the Midcoast on Thursday then phase with a rapidly developing low pressure system along the east coast that will move along the coast of New England on Friday bringing brisk winds and heavy rains. Temperatures will hold above freezing for the Midcoast during this time making this an all rain event with some snow possible for the high terrain of the western Maine mountains. Rainfall totals will be hardy, with 1" to 1.5" with the heaviest rain falling Friday morning. The storm will gradually clear out Friday night and into Saturday with some rain and snow showers wrapping in on the back side of the storm will little to no snow accumulation expected as highs drop into the 30s.

We'll see quiet weather for Sunday and into the early week with highs returning to the 40s with a chance for some coastal snow Tuesday as colder air filters back in.
