Rockland — One Community Many Vloices has hired Lucas McNelly as its new race director.

The position was previously held by Kelly Woods, and upon her departure, McNelly provided guidance and support as a volunteer to help OCMV to carry out its remaining 5K races of 2018.

According to OCMV Development Director Leah Nickerson, "hosting fundraising events that provide community members opportunities to live happy, healthy lives, i.e., walk/run 5K series, is part of OCMV's mantra. In order to attract more walkers and runners to the 5Ks, it makes perfect sense to bring in someone with McNelly’s abilities."

McNelly volunteered to oversee the Waldoboro Day 5K and grew it from nine runners to 73 in two years, according to OCMV's news release. He also started the Icy Elk 5K for the Waloboro Business Association, and grew it to 78 runners by the second year. He also organizes RunMidcoast.me and volunteers with Medomak basketball. He and his wife own Long Winter Soap Co. in Waldoboro.

Among his responsibilities with OCMV will be to rebrand the 2019 Midcoast Race Series, adding four new races. Interested runners can register for any of this year's races via RunSignup.com. Cost is $20 in advance, $25 day of race and youth $15.
