Midcoast squads compete in weekend preseason tournaments

Panther, Mariner, Lion, Windjammer hoop teams realize early success

The official start of the Midcoast high school winter sports seasons are only a few weeks away with many schools already putting their student-athletes on the basketball courts, the wrestling mats or hockey ice in preseason exhibition action.

The following is a recap of teams in action over the holiday weekend, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24, at various preseason tournaments:

John Bapst Tipoff Tournament, Bangor Auditorium

At Bangor, the Medomak Valley girls basketball team finished 2-0, picking up a 43-22 win over Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft and a 39-25 victory over John Bapst.

The Medomak Valley boys basketball team finished 1-1, losing 57-54 to Foxcroft Academy and earning a 75-25 decision over John Bapst.

The Mount View girls basketball team went 0-2, dropping games to both Dexter and John Bapst, with scores unavailable.

The Mount View boys basketball squad finished 2-0, earning a 51-35 win over Dexter and a 30-28 victory over John Bapst.

Cony Tournament, Cony High School

At Augusta, the Oceanside boys basketball squad finished 3-1, picking up wins over Cony, Dirigo of Dixfield and Greely of Cumberland before falling to Hampden Academy, with scores unavailable.

Bucksport Tournament, Bucksport High School

At Bucksport, the Belfast girls basketball team finished 2-0, earning a 51-14 win over Bucksport and a 47-30 victory over Narraguagus of Harrington.

The Belfast boys basketball team also finished 2-0, picking up a 50-28 win over Bucksport and a 55-27 victory over Narraguagus.

Lawrence Bulldog Tipoff Tournament, Lawrence High School

At Fairfield, the Camden Hills girls basketball team went 1-1, losing 39-34 to Skowhegan and defeating Messalonskee of Oakland 53-50.

The Oceanside girls basketball team finished 1-1, defeating Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield and falling to Lawrence of Fairfield, with the scores unavailable.
