Midcoast Theater Company receives arts commission grants

Feb 12, 2021

Belfast — Midcoast Theater Company, formally Midcoast Actors Studio, has received two grants from the Maine Arts Commission. The Arts and Humanities grant and the Arts Learning grant will both be used in MTC’s Spring 2021 production of the play "She Kills Monsters."

Through the theme of individualism, particularly with LGBTQ issues and the gamers’ world of Dungeons and Dragons, as well as themes of youth, relationships, family, grief and loss, this collaborative project will attract diverse audiences in engaging and thoughtful ways and stimulate meaningful community dialogue.

Discussions between the cast/crew with OUT Maine, local GSTA school groups and counselors, and The Game Loft will inform and elevate the performances. Talkback sessions after performances with audiences will build youth self-esteem, support and raise awareness in the community.

Midcoast Theater Company was founded in 2012 with a mission to bring people together to celebrate and explore what it means to be human. Thought-provoking theatre inspires collaboration and face-to-face connection in a digital age.
