Mildred 'Millie' Sylvester

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. M. Millie Sylvester who passed away March 5 after a long illness. She was born in Searsport, Maine Sept.18, 1924, a daughter of John and Sadie Dyer Merry. She graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast. She also graduated from Bible school in Appleton, Maine. At the age of two weeks, her parents took her to the Searsport Full Gospel Church which she has attended most of her life. At a very young age she began writing songs and poetry for almost every occasion. She sang and played the guitar in many churches, also in nursing homes and for many events. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

She is survived by five sons, Paul, David, Danny and wife Nellie, Michael and wife Pat, and Peter and wife Sandra; a brother, Ervin Merry, a sister, Ruthie Robbins; grandchildren, Jeremy, Samantha and John, Kathleen and Chris, Joshua and Cindy, Henry and Sinjta, Matthew, Marc, and Rachael; great-grandchildren, John, Maria, Madison, Noah, Orion, Azuriah, Phineas, Keira, Cameron, Devon and Zishe, and Austin; foster grandchildren, David and Jeannie; and sisters-in-law, Faustina Merry, Delores Merry, and Barbara Merry Davis. She is predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Washburn Sylvester; her parents; infant sister, Shirlene Carol; infant grandchildren, Elizabeth and Andrew Sylvester; sisters, Ina Moulton and Marie Opdahl; brothers, Earl, John and Elwood; a very special nephew, H. Peter Robbins; and brothers-in-law, Herman Robbins, Irving Moulton and Alex Opdahl.

There will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Searsport Historical Society, c/o Charlene Knox Ferris, P.O. Box 620, Searsport, Maine 04974. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.

I always enjoyed running into Millie when shopping. A very sweet woman, always smiling and friendly. Both her and Lloyd will be missed. You are all in my thoughts.
